Found on the internet:
During 1676, King Philip’s War was fought by settlers and Native Americans throughout the woods of New England. In a particularly gruesome engagement and biggest defeat of colonial troops in the war, King Philip’s men killed 8 militiamen and their captain by skinning them alive.
After a long, painful death, they were beheaded and their heads mounted on stakes. So awful was this fight that locals believe this to be the most haunted battle sites in New England. The stone memorial was erected in 1676 and is believed to be the oldest veterans memorial in the United States.

He was buried in 1676 in Nine Men's Misery fight site, Cumberland, Rhode Island.973 He contributed for King Phillip's War in 1676 .974 There is a record of him, in Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts on 7 February 1688/9.975 Benjamin has reference number Buck88. , He obtained land, in Attleboro, Bristol County, Massachusetts.349 In 1675, William Bucklin contributed 2£ 9s to assist in the war against the Indian King Phillip. His sons Benjamin and Joseph contributed 4£ 3s and 6 £ respectively. Pawtucket was in the center of the war zone, with many, if not most, of the houses burned, and many killed, including Benjamin Bucklin. Across the river, the entire small Jenks settlement was burned to the ground in 1675 during the King Philip War.

Benjamin was slain in what is memorialized as "Nine Mens' Misery". The death of these nine men in the war against King Phillip is an interesting story in itself. Benjamin's remains were identified by two pecularities of his body:
a. larger height than most men (well over six feet hight); and
b. a double row of teeth, so he had twice as many teeth than normal. [source: conference with Victor Franko, author of "Nine Men's Misery"]

There are some very strong family traditions which have been passed down through the Buckland family to the present generation. The strongest is that of the importance of a college education. Isaac Buckland and his son, RJW Buckland, were broad minded (for their day) and saw the importance of a “scientific education”. RJWB even sent his daughter, Genevieve, to Vassar in the 1870s ! She went on to marry Frank L. Crawford (whose father always regretted not attending college) who founded the girls college preparatory school, Kent Place School in Summit, NJ. in 1894. Genevieve made certain that her daughters were well read and they were allowed to date boys and have freedoms that were unheard of in those days. My grandmother(Dorothy) used to tell of being allowed to go out for moonlight canoe rides alone with a boy when she was in her teens (before 1907). Another family tradition was encouraging girls to be athletic. My grandmother was captain of her basketball team in prep school and college, played field hockey and competed in tennis almost to the Olympic level. All the family members were strong swimmers, canoe paddlers, and climbing the White Mountains in New Hampshire as young children. The family traveled all over Europe in the early 1900’s and spent several winters living in Germany to study German and music. Genevieve passed on her love of drawing and antiques to Lesley. Lesley continued to travel to Europe every other winter to stay in Florence, Italy with friends who were also artists. The Bucklands were known to be tall and large boned people.

Benjamin Bucklin689 was born on 6 February 1757 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut.57,992 He moved to in Herkimer County, New York in 1791 He died drowned in the Chesapeake on 22 February 1793 at the age of 36.993,994 **entry in the Providence Gazette lists the last name as BUCKLAND.

Death bef 1820 because of supposition by Mjrallis@mindspring.com because he's not mentioned in his father's (David's) will.

17 Feb 2015- this assumption of death in the Chesapeake is looking to be incorrect based on new information from PA. csbucklin In 1799, Benjamin obtained land, in Dundaff, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States. From Clifford Twp PA history: "The first clearing on the site of Dundaff was made about 1799 by Benjamin Bucklin, who in 1803 brought his family and became the first permanent settlers." He appeared in the census in 1800 in Providence, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States.995 In 1800, Benjamin Bucklin is listed as Benjamin Buckley with the following:
Males 16-25 1 Probably Albigence (abt 17)
Males 26-44 1 Probably Benjamin (43)
Females under 10 1 ?
Females 16-25 1 Probably Mary (16)
Females 26-44 1 ?
Females 45 and over 1 Probably Elizabeth (48)

Others of note in the census record are Caleb Brayton (Benjamin's brother in law) and William Stanton who likely named the adopted daughter of Albigence & Cynthia. He moved to in Dundaff, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States in 1804996 Emily C. Blackman's account tells that Benjamin Bucklin began clearing on the site of Dundaff in 1799, but did not move there for 3 to 4 years. When he did move to Dundaff, he came with his family including Albigence and Warren. His farm covered the site of Dundaff, and his house was the first built there. A saw-mill was built by Mr. Bucklin on the stream which runs through Dundaff', and which was the first in the township. He went back to the valley of the Mohawk before 1813, and his sons afterwards went to Ohio. Benjamin appeared in the census in 1810 in Clifford, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States.692,997 M over 45: 2

Benjamin was a soldier in the Revolutionary Army and fought at the battle of Bunker Hill. Note that Benjamin's brother John (which see) was a Capt in the Revolutionary Army and his first counsin Joseph Bucklin 5th fired the first shot in the War at the burning of the boat "Gaspee".

Benjamin moved to Herkimer County, NY, in 1791; and to PA in 1813, according to notes of family history of uncertain origin.

Because of Benjamin's marriage to Elizabeth Brayton, the name "Brayton" begins to appear in names given to children in the Bucklin line. Brayton was an important New Jersey family and politically important into the 1900's

The Bucklin and Brayton families were close.
Benjamin married Elizabeth Branton
Elizabeth Brayton's sister Mercy Brayton married Benjamin Bucklin's brother William.
