Moved to Herkimer in 1779 as per C. H. B. Rosskam's notes.[MLBC-12-00.FTW]

Moved to Herkimer County, NY after 1778. Settled at Eatonville.

David is listed in the DAR Index of Patriots as having served in the Revolutionary Army. His family and his wife Abagail Waldo's family were active in the Revolutionary War. He seems, by real estate conveyances, to have been a man of some wealth, both before and after the War.

According to the Waldo Genealogy, David & Abigail may have resided for a time in Pomfret, CT, after their marriage but before the War. However, by 1774 he and Abigail were in RI.

A deed dated 16 June 1774 shows David & Abigail, residing in Coventry, County of Kent, RI, conveying to Johanthan Waldo, yeoman, of Pomfret, CT, 10 1/2 acres in Pomfret. On 18 Mar 1779, David & Abigail, apparently still residing in Coventry, conveyed to Samuel Waldo of Pomfret, 3 acres of land.

In 1791, David wrote a letter to his oldest son John, then living in Herkimer County, NY, to advise David's son Benjamim (who had apparently just moved to be near John) not to buy more land than he could pay cash for.

On 13 June 1795 (when David would have been 69 years old) he moved with Abigail to be near his sons in New York State, according to the family Bible record of George Whitfield Emmons.

Apparently David's son William stayed in CT, because the will of David leaves his CT farm to William.

David was a wheelwright, and according to the Waldo genealogy made a spinning wheel when he was about 90 years old for his daughter Lucy.

It is from Abigail Waldo that the name of "Albigence became popular in the Bucklin line. Albigence Waldo was a brother of Abigail, and was a personal physician to George Washington. Albigence Waldo was at Valley Forge. Abigail and David's children, all born before the Revolution, were none of them named Albigence. But after the Revolution, the name was given to a grandchild of David and thereafter continued in the family line until Leonard Alby Bucklin in the 1900's.

But place is right only if he stayed in RI. This seems unlikely because this David Bucklin was district attonrey for the perios 2/1821 - 6/1816 in th area of NY where he was.

On the other hand, -- If this David Waldo Bucklin moved to NY with his father, he would seem to be the David W. Bucklin referred to often in the proceedings of the NY legislature. See The history of political parties in the state of New-York, from the ratification of the federal Constitution to December, 1840 ... By Jabez D. Hammond, LL. He was a Democrat, from Jefferson County, NY, and almost became elected speaker of the House in 1827.

Richard Anderson notes:
Child's Jefferson County Gazetteer 1684-1890 : "Admitted (to bar) in 1811, he soon attained the first rank in the profession. - page 61) . The description of Mr. Bucklin is best given in Mr. Clarke's address, who after referring to Micah Sterling... the equally tall and more robust form of David W. Bucklin, with his powerful enunciation, sometimes withering rebuke and sarcasm, bearing down his adversary by the very force of his presence, and frightening the witness our of his falsehood or integrity, no matter which, by, so to speak, the momentum of his appearance. This gentlemen became afterwards involved in politics, went to the legislature, removed to New York, and died; and his mantle descended upon George C. Sherman, his partner. The last time I heard him speak was in the Court of Sessions in defending a prisoner on a charge of theft; and the question of intent was strictly involved; in the language of the books the 'animus furandi', literally translated, 'intent to steal', In summing up to the jury Mr. Bucklin, in his impassioned manner, urged this principle, and, if I recollect right, successfully: that the legal term 'animus furandi' signified a furious mind, a most furious mind, gentlemen of the jury. and that his clients conviction or acquittal depended upon whether he, this poor, puny, half-starved, misbegotten creature, had a furious mind when he took the property. I tell you gentlemen the thing is impossible. I could not determine, says Mr. Clarke, at that time, though Mr. Bucklin had himself been district attorney, but was not burdened with classical learning, whether he was in earnest or jest in the argument; but from his manner every one would be led to believe that he was in dead earnest".
