In historical research there are name variations to be considered here: Jencks, Jenckes, Jenks, and Jenkes. They are all used to refer to the same Rhode Island families. Since there are the spelling variations, we have to use all of them in searching the databases. However, we will standardize our writing on this site with "Jencks" because Rhode Island's late Governor's family put that on his tombstone. On the other hand, the school in Pawtucket which is named after either the late Governor or his father (the founder of Pawtucket) is spelled Joseph Jenks Junior High School.
